QUAINT AND CURIOUS TREES.
Tho wonders of Nature and tho wisdom of Creation always offer a vast fel l of interesting study to those who v.ill learn, and fresh discoveries of the most curious nature are for ever being mcde aud reported to the world in general. Though by no means new discoveries, there are several most extraordinary trees, tho curious properties of which are not very widely known. Among those may be mentioned the tliundertice. the wind-tree, the rain-tree, and the ink-tree. Tim first of these is found in Arizona. I: i.- a kind *>f natural phonograph ; its leaves collect and concentrate the faintest sounds, and give them out in n Ml.'e sion of loud thumps and boomhigs. A :r.'.-t interesting effect can be produc’d by whistling to the branches of the r-tr. •. I:: - wind-ti-ee i- al-o a native of the United ;-".ato=. Tli? leaves of this tree , -itrh and retain cm rents of air, later throwing them forth again with groat str-.'ii:;;li. thus converting the tree into a sort of huge natural fan. The rain-tre.' is a Hsefnl tenter.’ of tie* ve.-.elation of many dry redans in America. it gathers and condense- the moisture m the air. :i:i<! exudes th'-* mni-turo through its trank rn-1 brr.nchos. Ore tree is- said to bo able to irriiv’to !i.:’f an acre of land. The ink-tree c.er.-.'-: from India.
