H.B. HIGHLAND SOCIETY. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Highland Society held m the Foresters' Hall, Napier, last evening. At the eomencernent of the evening Chieftain Neilson, on behalf of the Chief, Mr. R. D. D. MrLean, who was unavoidably absent, presented the society with a very fine framed enlarged photograph of the late King. The chairman (Chieftain Neilson) also extended a hearty welcome to Mr. J. P. Thomson, who, after returning thanks, gave a short description of his late travels, dealing particularly with Scotland. Councillor J. Mcßae, who is shortly leaving on an extended tour of Australia and the Homeland, was presented with letters of introduction to kindred societies. The following new members were elected: Messrs. D. T. Sinclair. L. H. Hay. R. Chisholm, A. McLean, AV. C. Munro and J. AV. Ritchie. Mr. T. Moore was nominated for membership. At the conclusion of the ordinary business the meeting took the form ol a social, songs, musical items, and dancing enabling all present to spend a most enjoyable evening. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Alexander. ('ooze, and kindlay. ami Messrs. J. Young, Stevenson, Neilson, and Matson. Mi. Shippen added variety to the jirogramme by giving a clog dance, ami a choir under Mr. McConnell gave several pleasing numbers. Pipemajor Mcßae played for lhe Highland dances, and Airs. Arroll (piano) assisted by Mr. R. Yuill (illite), provided suitable mu'ic for tll(J songs and other dances. An excellent supper, provided by Mr. Alexander. contributed to the success of the evening.
