MR. LANE AND MR. CLAI’HAM
TO THF. EDITOR. Sir, —Mr. Lane seems t-> take exception t«> my reply to him on Friday evening. If his interjection had the shadow of generosity which he asserts it had. then I must say ! am sorry his feelings wen- hurt. The other motives which prompted the impulse were too much in evidence to be doubted ami inspired my reply. When Mr. Lane has cooled down a little Fie will easily see that one candidate could not help another on sm-h an oeeas-on without putting in two for himself at the same time. Mr. Lane has i>ad:;, misquoted me in reference to my remarks about resigning the seat if ! found 1 was not attaining my objects arid serving the district. I made no reference to my business in connection with that matter. Thanking you.- I am. etc.. G. SPENCER CLAPHAM.
