In making the prerenlat ions Mr. Fraser spoke very distinctly on the conduct and attitude of some of the amateur contest ant s. He said their absence in the final?; on the second night without notice or leave was both discourteous and unworthy oi sportsmen. He compared the conduct of the two professionals. Brom wich and Griffin, who stood out as clean honourable fighters, examples that should lie followed lay all who wished to perpetuate the noble art. and maintain its high traditions. In presenting the several medals to L. Stewart .of Petoite. the viee-presi dent specially, on behalf of the Association. thanked him for his presence and fine enhibition of skill and pluck, and extended to him a hearty welcome to any future contests.
Stewart, in responding, said he would always gladly visit Hastings, and on another occasion would not come alone for it would be his pleasure to tell liis friends how well the association had treated him.
Litter Mr. Frns-er presented Gi iffir with, a handsome gold medal with the association’s monogram in front and engraved on the back "In recognition of a clean fight. Hastings 12 10 >!)iln doing so Mr. Fraser .-aid that Griffin, though not the victor, had. with his opponent, doncmitch by bis masterly exhibition anil manliness to restore public confidence in the game and increased and assured prosperity to the association. Griffin, in reply, expresed genuine surprise at the generosity of the association. adding that such a mark of approval was to him almost greater than victory in the ring. He offered to come again whenever his .services might be required.
