A matter of considerable importance to persons taking up land und<*r lease from Maori Land Boards was discussed in the House yesterday. The attention of the Prime Minister was directed by Mr. Jennings ‘a the position of certain settlers in th? King Country who had taken up leases from the Manicpoto Maori Land Board. The leases contained no provision for improvements and the result was the settlers were unable to obtain financial assistance from lending institutions. The Prime Minister said the matter was an important one and it was a question whether Parliament, should mandatorilv require the Maori Land Boards to provide for the payment of improvements in their leases. In his opinion they should, and thus ensure that persons taking up these leases could obtain the financial assisstnnee they required.
