TAUPO-TOTARA RAILWAY.

SLOW TRAVELLING. (per press association.] Wellington, Oct. 13. The petition of the Taupo Timber Company was again before the special committee of Parliament today. Mr. H. J. H. Blow, Under-Secre-tary of Public Works, gave evidence that the Company’s line was a light one. and worked by special rolling stock and engine. It took eight hours to run 50 miles. The line was not up to the standard of the Government railways, and considerable expenditure would be necessary before it could be authorised to carry passenger traffis. At present it was fit for light traffic a low speed, if .that would suit the requirements of the district.
