N.Z. HONOUR LIST. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington. Oct. 12. His Excellency the Governor. Knight of Justice of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, this afternoon, at Government House, presented Police Constable Sleeth with the certificate of honour of the order for bravery in rescuing a child from certain death. Lord Islington said that, in compliance with a command from His Royal Highhness the Duke of Connaught. Grand Prior of St. John of Jerusalem in England, he had much pleasure in conferring upon Constable Sleeth this certificate in recognition of his conspicuous bravery on November 6th last. A tram ear from Quay was travelling towards V> ilils street when a small child ran in front of rt. The constable rushed across the street and pulled the child from almost underneath the wheels of the car. and. in doing so. endangering his own life. By his courageous action he had saved the child from what otherwise would have been perhaps a most distressing death. The order of St. John of Jerusalem, in addition to the various institutions connected with it. both for ambulance work, nursing and charitable aid undertakings. had established an award of various degrees for acts of gallantry in attempting to save life. This was annually presented by the Grand Prior to those who had earned them ami were resident in England, but when the recipient was resilient in one < f the dominions of the Empire as m the present case. Hu* Grano Prio. asked the Governor of the Do minion, as the King's representative, to present it on behalf of His Royal Highness. This he had great pleas ure in doing, and in offering his eon gratulations to the recipient. Christchurch, Oct. 12. The court of directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand has made the following awards:— Silver medal to Charles A. Cowan, for rescuing James McLeod from drowning at Auckland on February 3rd. 1911. Silver medal to George H. k oyee. for resetting Thomas H. Gardiner from drowning at Lyttelton on July 22nd. 1911. Bronze medal to Clarence C. V. Davies for rescuing A. S. McPhail and John D. Connell from diowninc at Waingongoro beach on April 2ml. Ik)i I> Framed certificate to Cecil Ellison for rescuing William Carlew and Alfred Hart from drowning at \\rirng ton on May 1 Ith. 1911.
