LAWN TENNIS.

HASTINGS CLUB. The official opening of the Hastings Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club’s courts took place on bat-urdaj afternoon, in ideal weather. There was a gathering of fully 200 ladies and gentlemen, including visiting ulayers from all parts of Hawke s Bav. Air. G. Ebbett, vice-presid-ent. in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mt’. G. N. Pharazyn, declared the courts open, ’ and in so doing extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. He also stated that the club had recently purchased another quarter-acre of land adjoining the present courts, which would be used for croquet lawns. Friendly games of tennis and croquet were indulged in, every court being occupied. Tombs’ band was in attendance, and afternoon tea was provided by the ladi<*s. All of the. association cups, winch are at present held by the Hastings Chib, were on view, and attracted much attention.
