Yesterday His Excellency and party left Otarara in the morning for Maraekak.tho. vi-iting on the way Cris-oge. Omaliti. amt Ngatarawa. On arriving at Marai-kakaho they were met ibv Mr. IL D. D. McLean and Mr. ()virt<«n. and wi ru shown over the large wool shed and then inspecte I the stud sheep and ponies. After lunch they vi-itcd the farm in ti e vallty ami -pent a pit a-ant afterm-t n I amongst the Shorthorns and C'y les'dales, afterwards inspecting the .beautiful Hock of Leice-ters and I merinos and the fat cattle. The : party returned in the evening to Otatara. His Excellency expressing li’iii--clf as much impressed with what he had seen. To-day he will visit Mr. Chambers’ vineyard and wine cellars, the Arataki Govt rnnient farm, lunch :at Mr. G. N. Pharazyn’s. and will 1 then proceed to Karamu at the hi’.i ration of the Hon. J. I). Ormond, going over hi- racing -table and in--peeting file brood man s. His Excellency is much charim-1 with the di-ttict and its surroundings. with its rich flats and beautiful undulating hills. He is also much Impress) d with the well cultivated appearance the land presents on the various liolditigs he has passed through.
LORD ISLINGTON AS FARMER
In accordance with an arrangement he has made on several previous occasions at country race meetings he has attended in other parts of th? Dominion. His Excellency has expressed a wish to Mr. Donnelly to make the acquaintance of some of the small farmers during an interval between the races to-morrow. Being a large land-owner in England, he has had great experience in agricultural matters. Mr. Donnelly has promised to get as many as he can together, so it is to be hoped that a number of the small farmers will be in attendance. Those wishing to be present should make it a point to interview the President of the Jockey Club earlier in the day. as the meeting. which will be of quite an informal character, will take place in the afternoon.
