PANAMA AND THE WORLD’S
PEACE
Ottawa. Sept. 28. Lord C harles Beresford, speaking at tlie Canadian Club in Victoria, said the opening of tlx* Panama Canal would evolve the greatest problems conceived, which the Englishspeaking nations would have a difficulty in solving. It was impossible to alter the strategical position of one hemisphere without altering that of the other. To alter the trade routes would involve a solution of problems on which would depend the peace of the vvoi<d. He criticised the Declaration of London as weaking the British naval organisation and lessening the protection of the trade* routes
FRENCH DESTROYERS COLLIDE.
Paris, Sept. 28.
The destroyers Mosqueton and Trident collided while manoeuvring at Toulon. The Mosqueton was wrecked and beached to prevent her from sinking.
