ATHLETICS.
HXWKE’S BAY CENTRE OF THE N.Z.A. .AND C. UNION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above centre was held in the Masonic Hotel. Napier, yesterday afternoon. The President (Mr. R. I). D. McLean) occupied the chair, tltere were also present Messrs. J. X. Barrie. C. Cunningham. V. Cuthbertson, A. A. George. A. Rosenburg. C. P. Lindergreen. T. Parker, and M . G. Callender.
The follow iiig clubs were represented :—The H.B. Highland Society, Hastings Cycling and Athletic Club, Takapan Caledonian Society, Ormondville, Elstliorpe. Otane and Waipukuratt Athletic Clubs. The annual report and balancesheet were adopted. Considerable discussion took place over the action of the N.Z. Athletic Union in regard to the recommendation of the H.B. Centre that two well known athletes be disqualified. It was decided to ask tne N.Z. Union to re-open the case. Air. W. (I. Callender resigned his position as secretary to the H.B. Centre. All present spoke in appreciative terms of Mr. Callender's past services. It was decided to vote him a bonus of £lO/10,-, and that a minute of appreciation be placed on the books. The ('lection of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:
President. Mr. IL D. D. AlcLean; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. AL AVhittingtoii. W. G. Callender and H. AL Campbell: secretary. Air. C. P. Lindergreen : executive committee. T. Parker, C. Cunningham. J. N. Barrie, W. Cuthbertson and A. A. George: lion, auditor, Mr. J. Parker. Mr. AV. G. Callender was appointed official handicapper for the en. suing year. Clubs not obtaining his services are to forward the names of handicappers for the Centre’s approval. as provided by the rules. NOTICES OF AIOTION. The following notices of motion were moved by Air. Callender and carried : (1) That all affiliated clubs be notified that in future no entries must lie taken from athletec from outside the Centres unless the nomination of such athlete is certified to as correct by a leading handicapper in the Centre from which the competitor hails, and that all clubs and societies insert such rule in their programmes. (2) That a remit on the lines of
Hie above be forwarded to the next annual meeting of the I nion to be held in Auckland and the Centre’s delegate be instructed to endeavour tn have such rule marie general and be inserted in the rule book.
Mr. Callender brought. up the matter of a North Island Motor Cycling Union, which lias recently been formed. It was thought that this union might conflict with the N.Z. Atliietic and Cycling ['nion which has already rules controlling motor cycling. The secretary was instructed to look into the matter.
A sub-conimittee were appointed to draft, a circular to all centres in the North Island asking for their views on the matter of having a separate union for the North and South Islands. The sub-committee to report to a meeting of the executive.
A number of Athletic Clubs applied for dates to be allotted to them. These were granted. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
