WAGES QUESTION.
Sir.—The paragraph appearing in your Saturday’s issue with regard to wages paid to workmen on the sewer was an eye-opener to me. The, public v. er? led to believe by Mr. Reardon (interviewed by your contemporary) that the Hastings Borough Council were onlv paying 1 - an hour, which according to the return is not correct. So much for the statement of a well-paid advocate (agitator!). What will Mr. Reardon have to say for himself now. lie referred to the wages paid in AVellington in his interview. In the face of his statement, it has been discovered that, the wages paid by the Govi rinuent (the people's Government ?) in the State Coal Yards is I - per hour as compared with higher wages paid by private employers doing the same class of business. And this in the city where paid labour agitators are numerous. -—I am, etc., FAIP PLAY.
