Professor W. T. Mills is due at Gisborne on Wednesday. He is expected to stay there for four days,. Mr. J. A. Quinn, solicitor, of Auckland. died somewhat suddenly this morning. He had been suffering from hear! trouble.
Mr. Gideon Jamieson, a pioneer oi the Manawatu district, died at Palmerston North 10-da.v, aged 87. He arrived in the district in 1877 from Shetland and resided at Awapuni till tbe time of his death.

Colonel Bridges, commanding the .Australian Royal Military College, Ims informed Major-General Godley that he has promoted N. 1. K. Jennings, one of the ten cadets sent by New Zealand to the Australian Military College for training, as a cadet non-commissioned officer. Messrs A. L. D. Fraser and H. A. Mossman left Hastings for Wellington this morning to join the deputation which is to wait <m the Prime Minister in reference to the commencement of the East Const Railway. The deputation was to have met the Prime Minister this morning but the president of the .Hastings Chamber < f Ccmmeree (Mr. E. H. Wililams) and Mi'. Fr-ascr telegraphed to the Premier requesting that the receiving of the delegates should be deferred till this evening.
