IMPORTATION OF STUD STOCK

Wellington, Sept. 11.

What is said t> be the largest consignment of stud cattle that has yet come to hand in New Zealand from America was landed by the Aorangi at Wellington this morning from San Francisco. It comprises 17 head of Holstein-Fricscins. which were selected from herds in Brocklow (Massachusetts) ami M isconsin by Mr. W. L. Lovelock, of Palmerston North, for the following farmers Messrs C. C. Hopping, Rongotca; J. Hart, Danncvirkc; W. J. Remnant, Woodville: J. Liggins, Tokomatir: and A. J. Harris, Featherson. Half a dozen others are to follow to complete the order, and, like the first lot, they will be imported through the agency of Dalgety and Co., Palmerston North branch. The cattle were transhipped to the Duchess this morning and conveyed to the Quarantine Slation on Sonnies Island. The animals are said to have been bred from the highest strain in the States from which they were selected. Their value is assessed at a high figure.
