OBITUARY

MR. FREDERICK SLATER.

It is with great regret that we announce the death of Frederick Walter Slater, son of our old and respected settler, Mr. Walter Slater, of Napier, which occurred yesterday evening at his parents’ residence, Gladstone road. The deceased was only 28 years of age, and spent the whole of his life in Napier. He was of a most cheerful disposition, and had earned the respect and goodwill of a large circle of friends. Prior to his illness over twelve months ago, deceased was an active member of the Napier Sailing Club, the Napier Orchestral Society, and other associations, and always threw plenty of energy, into the advancement of these organisations. Mr. Biater was for some considerable time with the firm of Messrs. C. B. Hoadley and Son, Limited, and afterwards launched into an accountancy business on his own account. Some few months ago, with his parents, he undertook a passage to England to consult an eminent specialist, but unfortunately on arrival at Sydney further complications set in, and young Slater liad to relinquish the trip and return with his parents to Napier. The utmost sympathy is felt with Mr. and Mrs. Slater and the deceased’s other relatives in the loss they have sustained. '
