MELBA AT SYDNEY.

A GREAT SUCCESS.

Sydney, Sept. 3.

The Melba Opera Company opened to a packed and enthusiastic house. The performance was a splendid success. The takings exceeded £l5OO, which is a record. The people commenced to gather at 7 o’clock this morning. There was a dense crowd ,and a dense rush when the theatre was opened at two o’clock. The crowd occupied the time till the performance in impromptu concerts, the theatre providing tea.
