ANNUAL MEETING

The New Zealand Sheepowm ;i--and Farmers’ Federation held it.; annual meeting to-day. Mr. A. H. Russell (Hawke’s Bay) • presiding. The following districts- were also represented Mr. Roderick McKenzie and Colonel J. C. Nicholls (Otago), Mr. H. D. Acland, Mr. W. McFarlane and Major J. Deans (Canterbury), Mr. IL D. Vavasour (Marlborough). Mr. J. D. Wilson and Mr. H. A. Nevine (Wellington), Mr. S. E. Wright (Hawke’s Bay), and Mr. H. V. Delatour (Poverty Bay).

On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. 1 Roderick Me Kcnzie, the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was agreed to.

Officers were f lected as follows : President, Mr. H. D. Acland ; vicepresident, Mr. J. G. Wilson ; hon. treasurer, Mr. D. D. McFarlane. A council consisting of eighteen members was also elected. The woolclassers’ demands were considered and referred back to. the Canterburv Union.

Mr. Acland said it had been arranged with Federation for Dominion-<awards in connection with shearers and shed hands on the terms of the Wellington award.

The Shearers’ Accommodation Bill and the Sale of Poisons Bill were also considered and certain amendments suggested. Mr. A. 11. Russell and Mr. 11. D. Vavasour were appointed representatives to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Employers’ Fed erat ion. Mr. J. C. Nicholls brought before the meeting the present position of Crown tenants on grazing runs with regard to compensation at the expiration of the lease, which the Act of 1910 had deprived them of. —The matter was referred to the executive.

Mr. H. D. Vavasour raised the question of the objects of the NewZealand Producers’ Association. In support Mr. J. G. Wilson urged the necessity of securing dock accommodation and transjt in London for New Zealand frozen produce. He said there was now an opportunit} for up-to-date dock accommodation within five miles of the city if prompt action were taken by the producers. The Producers’ Association had obtained an assurance from Lord Devonport that the necessary improvements would be made to the South West India Docks, and the necsesary sorting sheds would be erected, provided that the project received the prompt support of the producers generally. On the motion of Mr. H. D. Vavasour, seconded by Mr. J. G. Wilson, it was agreed that the Canterbury and Otago Sheepowners’ Union be asked to consider the question of obtaining improved dock accommodation in London for frozen produce, and that the unions be recommended to bring the matter before the larger buyers of stock in Canterbury and' Otago, ami to point out the advantages to be gained if the present opportunity were availed of, of accommodation at the South West India Docks.
