MUSICAL COMPETITION.
THE FINAL CONCERT. A HUGE SUCCESS.
The Napier Musical Competitions concluded last night with a grand concert by the prize winners. In anticipation of the good things to be taken and those arriving a little after 8 p.m. found themselves confronted with the sign “stage room provided every available scat was only.” All scenery had been pul on one side and row's of chairs were occupied by over 100 people. It was indeed a record house and -'iv> ’o make the heart cf the treasurer glad. There' was no disappointment for those who attended. The progritmi.ic was a good one and the performers in excellent form. The following were the contributions :—Brass quartette “Wagner,” Hastings Band No. 1 ; solo, “Arm! Arm. Ye Brave,” Mr. S. Prime ; solo. “The Oak and the Ash,” Miss Ivy Swan ; dialogue. “As You Like It,” Miss K. Darby and Mr. MeCorkindale; solo, “The Ash Grove,” Master Roy Wiliams (winner cf Mrs Montague’s special prize); quartette, “Who is Sylvia.” Misses Gragg and McFarlane, Messrs C. Prime and 11. E. Jones ; recitation, “A Little Girl’s View of Hotel Life.” Miss Doreen D’Authreau; solo, “Stolen Wings,” Miss Flo. Sutherland ; solo “The Two Grenadiers,” Mr. C'ecil Chambers; string quartette “Emperor’s Hymn,” (Haydn), Messrs Spackman, Lyttelton, C. Prime and Lomas ; recitation “How Men Propose,” Mr. C. H. Hobbs; solo, “The Enchantress,” Miss Ellen Millar ; violin solo, “Saltarelle,” Miss Strangman; duet “Farewell to the Swallows,” Misses Sutherland ; recitation “Eliza,” Miss (1. Gallien; solo “Onaway, Awake Beloved,” Mr. Cecil Prime; church choir “God is a Spirit,” “Sacred Heart” choir ; recitation “The Vagrant and his D.og,” Air. J. C. Bell ; duet “Oh, W«rt Thou in the Canid Blast,” Misses Bear and Richards; (■('citation “A Spring Chorus,” Miss P. Brown ; solo “May Dew,” Miss Arnott ; Leidertafel “The Beleaguered,” Hastings Harmonic Society ; recitation “Queen Margaret's Speech,” Miss Ethel Watson ; quartette “ The Hunter’s Farewell,” Messrs Prime ; recitation “King Henry’s Speech.” Air. Smith were the stage manager:; for th( evening and everything passed off without s. hitch. Owing to the length ly programme encores were not allowed. but many were honestly earned.
