Sydney, Aug. 28.

A terrific explosion occurred in the meter-room of the Orange gasworks. The building wa*s shattered. Ambrose, the manager, and Fitzgerald and Jackson, ■workmen, were injured, Ambrose and Fitzgerald seriously. The latter died after admission to the hospital.

(Received 30, 9.5 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 30.

Fitzgerald and. Jackson were repairing a meter at the time, of the explosion. The walls were blown out and the debris scattered far. The sound of the explosion was heard at a great distance.
