ADVANCES TO WORKERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I must apologise for again writing you on the subject of Workers’ Dwellings, but seeing in your issue of yesterday your representative’s interview with Mr. Bailey and noting his readiness to supply information I will take the matter up with him. I would like to point out that the illustration he gave of the worker owning a section worth £250 does not apply
to the cases I had in mind at all. Three of my fellow employees secured sections at prices ranging from £6O to £lOO, and applied to the Government for loans to build homes under the Advances to Workers Act. In one case woi(ld not advance anything, the other cases the applicants had to find £l5O and £l7O towards the cost. It seems to me if that is the best the Government can do the Advances to Workers Act becomes a dead letter to the majority of workers.—l am, etc., W. WHITE. Omahu road a Hastings, Aug. 23.
