SHEARERS’ ACCOMMODATION.
NEW LEGISLATION
The secretary of the Hastings branch of the Farmers’ I nion has received a copy of the Shearers’ Accomm -jd tt ion A nicndm en t Act. Section 8 of the principal Act is repealed. and in lieu thereof a number of provisions fur the proper and sufficient accommodation of shearers are insert' d. All buildings provided by the employer for the accomodation of shearers shall be separate from the shearing shed, and shall be distant therefrom not less than 150 feet. nor less than 900 feet from any killing yard or piggery, or other building in which any operation of an offensive nature is carried on. or which contains offensive matter. Not- less than 240 cubic feet of air space shall be allowed to each person sleeping in any such building; a sufficient number of bunks shall be provided by the employer in each sleeping apartment or room for the accommodation of shearers, but in no ca«e shall more than two bunks in height be allowed in any such room, and where femahs are employer!, separate and sufficient accommodation and vrive.cv shall be provided : a book of instrm tions on first aid to the injnicd and a proper and sutim : w’y supplied medicine ebgst shall be provided by every employer for the eonven: ence of shearers .all medieiim to be charged for at the mmre.-t town rates, with the eoo-t of carriage add t d. and in case ui actident. medicine to be supplied free by the employer; every employer shall, within three days after the day on which shearing has been com-
jnenced at his shed. post or cause to be delivered to the Inspector, at his official address, a notice that his buildings of accommodation in all things comply with the provisions of this section.
