Few people understand what it means to an officer to have his name erased hod the Army List. The writer knows, tor he iiat suiterod the bitterness of it. it, is in itself a punishment severe enough to amply atone for any fault -.hurt of murder —and it has to be borne ia addition to the punishment that the la for his offence. A man may live down a sentence of imprisonment, but he -;u -iy can rid himself of the otigpna of having had his name removed from tho Army List : he remains a pariah to the end of his days.
