THE SPECULATOR’S HARVEST.
Flven as long ago a.s Queen Victoria’s Coronation—seventy-three years—money was plentiful, for over £200,000 was j,aid for seats on the route. This figure was given by the ( haiieellor of the Exchequer. The price of a seat varied from ten sbillmgs to five pounds, and then, as now. speculators made a great harvest. Many people lot the fronts of their houses for sums ranging from £5O to £3OO. Several houses in St Jiunes’s Street were let for £‘2oo each, and, after paying all expenses, the speculators were two to three hundred pounds to the good for e ich house.
