A Launceston cable announces the death of Mr. Murray, local manager of the Union Steamship Company. Mr. F. Symonds and his father, ?<lr. W. J. Symonds, who have bet a on a visit to the Old Country, are expected to return to Hastings to night.
Mr. J. B. O’ Keefe left Hastings this morning mi route for Westport. Prior to leaving he was the recipient of a handsome presentation from the staff of Messrs. Roach Bros. The death occurred at Taradale yesterday afternoon of Mr. Richard Jeffares. Deceased, who re-
sided with his brother, Mr. Isaac Jeffares, had been ailing for some time. Death was due to fatty degeneration of the heart. Mr. Isaac Jeffares states' that he took some dinner to his brother about 1 o’clock, but he refused it, saying at the same time, that he was feeling very well. About 2 o’clock Mr. Jeffares again saw his brother who appeared to be dying. Dr. Leahy was summoned immediately, but before his arrival death had taken place.
