(Received 14, 9.5 a.m.) Berlin, Aug. 13. Three hundred and five infants died at Leipsic this week through the abnormal heat.

FOREST FIRES IN GERMANY.

The heat now being experienced is the greatest since 1848. The river Rhine is lower now than it has been for the last century. Owing to forest and heath fires, the picture gallery at Nuremberg has been closed. The pictures have been stored in cool rooms, as the paint is cracking.

HEAT IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Adelaide, Aug. 14. Following the recent record cold, South Australia has just experienced a record spell of heat for August. It is now raining.
