The police gave evidence that no lights were on the scaffold-, ing on the dates in question. De-j fondant explained that he had 1 ; caused the lamps to be lighted' every night, and had seen the men • do this. He could not help it if j hooligans put the lamps out. H. Evans was charged with riding his bicycle after sunset without a proper light. Accused said he had lighted his lamp before leaving home, and to the best of his belief the lamp was alight when he reached the spot where the constable saw him. Fined 30/- and costs 7/-.
