Tender's for the Alangatahi bridge will be considered at the next meeting of the Hawke's Bay County Council.
An inquest was held this morning at Napier, before Mr. PI. W. Brabant, district coroner, on the body of Fanny Harris, who was found dead yesterday morning. After hearing lengthy evidence the coroner returned the following verdict: ‘ Ifiud that deceased died from a wound on her throat inflicted by herself when, in the opinion of her medical attendant, she was temporarily out of her mind.”
A good deal of excitement was caused in Hastings about 10.15 a.m. this morning, through a horse attached to a four-wheeled buggy bolting. The eonve;,a:n e belonged to Hare Nepe. who. in c.iinpany with Tepene Wilson, was driving to Hastings from Waipaiu. When nearing Mr. J. IbrUur’s store in Kara mu road, a nut became loose and one of the shafts gave way. Tfie buggy took a sharp turn, throwing both <•••. ’.pants on to the ground. The horse immediately took fright, and bolted along Kararoad, round Tipping’s corner ■ito Qm-en street, thence to Station and Avenue roads, and out again into Earamu road, across Hereraumxa street, and into Eastbourne street, finally landing in Holt s timber yard. The trop had a small spring broken and a nut tost, but no other damage- wadone. The harness was considerably broken, and the horse was badly cut about the legs The occupants escaped with only a few bruises.
