The whole of the dress circle and as far back as seven barriers behind the 1 orchestra stalls had been allotted at noon.

The Hastings Bowling and Croquet Club held a euchre party and dance in St. Matthew’s Hall, last evening. About 80 persons to k part in the euchre, the prize- miners being as follows:- Ladies, Mrs. R. McGaffin 1, Mrs. F. Watson 2. Gentlemen, Mr. G Poppelwell 1. Mr. S. H. Knight 2. A tasteful supper was provided, after which the floor was cleared for dancing. Mrs. W. Gebbie supplied excellent music.

A Gisborne message records the death, which occurred this afternoon, of Mr. A. F. Kennedy, manager for Messrs. Williams & Kettle. Mr. Kennedy was a prominent and popular townsman, and the news of his death was received with general regret.
