THE C.C. AND D. CO

MARKET REPORT, JUNE 30.

The increased briskness of demand which followed the reopening of the markets after the Coronation holidays soon died away, and the trade has relapsed into its previous dull and dragging condition. Supplies are fairly heavy and proving more than equal to the demand. The result is that little change in juices has been established and in some cases the tendency is against the seller. The offerings of Argentine chilled beef have been very large and prices have to rule at a very moderate level in order to get the meat into consumption. Even on the provincial markets, frozen beef is practically excluded by the cheapness of chilled. Hind quarters are selling at 3Ad to per lb and fores are worth no more than 2d to 2)d per lb. Home-grown beef however has well maintained its value and Scotch sides are about |d per lb dearer. The few North American Chilled hinds are making up to 7d per lb.

Prime Scotch mutton also makes up to 7d per lb, but the bulk of the English mutton offered does not exceed s;]d per lb. Light, supplies of Dutch are worth s|d to per lb., and the top juice of English lamb is now 9d jier ll*.

; New Zealand Alutton. The ’ "Kent” has arrived with 5(523 car- ; cases and the "Taiuui” with 16,59!) ; carcases. This mutton finds a slow • sale ami the enquiry runs entirely

: oil light., carcases. The small of : fernigs of Canterbury are unchaugicd at 3/d to lld per lb. North ! Islands are firmly held and good I light,, sheep are worth uj) to 3*d per ; lb. but medium weights can be ; bought at 3;'d per lb.

South American Mutton.- The arrivals have been "Highland Corrie” 5610 carcases. "Zephyrus” 596-8 carvase’s, “Amiral Sallan<lrouze” ItuHjii carcases. '‘Nile' i 166 carcast s. "Pardo " 1(1,163 carcases amt "Highland Eulerprtse” 15.713 carcases. This mutton satisfies tlie bulk of the enquiry, but light sheejj are scarce ami per lb is asked for these. Other weights range down to 3bl j,er lb. medium weiuhts ficins? worth about 31d per lb.

Australian Mutton. There has been no addition to the very light stocks, and as the sujiplies arc nearly all small earcases these are readih saleable at close to 31d per lb. Frozen Lamb. Receipts consist of 96.992 (‘arrases from New Zealand and 22.165 carcases from South America. The demand is not quite so animated as it lias- been, but rhe smaller weights are still in good request. Moldi rs have firmly maintained their position and a. lew light weight Canterbury's have <‘hanged hands at 5.1 d per lb. Th is improvement has drawn iqi tin value of other grades, and medium

weights are now worth sfd per lb. North Island arc quoted at 5d to std j>er lb. Ihe few Austral jams arc offered at lld to st’(! per lo ami file best South Americans made /<! jier lb more. frozen Beef.--The addition of 9576 quarters from New Zealand. 3699 quarters from Australia and 52.993 quarters ttom South America to the already heavy stock?, makes an improvement in the demand urgently desired. For some time past frozen beet has been dilln.ult to jnove and, in the face of cbeaj> chilled beef, lower quotations would have had little result. Hind quarters are nominally unchanged but lores have a downward tendency. Very little business is passing. LIVE STOCK. WAIPUKURAU SALE. The usual fortnightly sale of live
