NAPIER AMATEUR CLUB
The first general meeting of the abiivr club \tas held last evening, Mr. P. Fulton presiding over a large attendance. , it was decided that (lie club should be called the Napier Amateur Boxing Club. , The following officers wore elected : President. A. C. It was decided that the entrance fee should be 2/6, and that the maintenance fee should be 1/- per week ; honorary members, 5/-. The matter of drafting rules for the club was held over for the attention of a committee, who will report at a future meeting. The club’s rooms will be <■ en on every day- but Monday 7 and i hiirsday. , The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman. Some friendly bouts took place, and much promising mat?ria’ was discovered.
JONES BEAT WENAND. Kalgoorlie (W.A.), July 27. Last night, at Boulder, Tommy Jones (Melbourne) met Billy Wenand (New Zealand) for the featherweight championship of the State. Both men exceeded the stipulated weight. In the eleventh round the referee, owing to the damaged condition of Wenand, stopped the fight, declaring Jones the winner on points. ■ ! ’ Broken Hill, July 27. Frank Thorn (9.5) and Jim Armstrong (9.7) put up a. rattling good return fight at the Hippodrome last night, one of the best Broken Hill has seen. The attendance was good, though it might have been, better. Thorn was awarded the contest at the end of twenty rounds and thoroughly deserved the ver- • lict. Bill Lang and Jack Lester have signed articles for another battle, to take place on September 2nd.
