MR. T.E. TAYLOR’S DEATH.

There is something extremely pathetic in the death of Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P.. for Christchurch North, on the very day fixed for the opening of Parliament. Indeed, just as the speech was being de- ; livered to his colleagues, Mr. Taylor was sinking, and the opening ceremonies had hardy ended before he passed away. It can be said with sincerity that Mr. Taylor was one of the ablest, men in the present Parliament. He was not a popular man in the House and men found it clilliculi. to attach his sympathies or win liis friendship. He was called cold and cruel, and tlie biting power of criticism lie possessed was turned alike on friend or foe when occasion arose'. But while some men feared him. many loved him, and one and all recognised his splendid courage.
