The cocaine habit is spreading in several cities in Canada. A hundred and fifty arrests were made in Montreal in twelve months of persons using and selling the drug.
A Treasury return shows that last year England contributed towards the Imperial expenditure 90.53 per cent., Scotland 9.22, and Ireland 0.25. England contributed to the revenue 84.36 per cent., Scotland 9.86, and Ireland 5.78. England’s local expenditure, was 73.19 per cent., Scotland’s 11.03, and Ireland’s 15.78. ♦
Three were killed and eleven seriously injured in an explosion ab a mixin gshed at the Cliffe cordite factory, Rochester. The shed was blown to atoms.
Ten similar deaths have occurred at Cliffe during the last decade. The Maharajah of Gwalior has given the King £BOOO as a Coronation gift. The King has devoted it to the King Edward Hospital Fund, Army and Navy charities, the Fresh Air Fund, and the Ragged School Union.
Before the Food Commission, at Sydney, Mr. Stead, naturalist in the Fisheries Department, threw light, on .the wiles of certain .res-taurant-keepers. declaring that mullet was sold as a substitute for almost any class of lie quoted figures showing that fishermen often. received less than half what the consignments brought in the market.
