Seventeen completed the first ! stage. Brooklands to Hendon, of the “ Daily Mail ” flight. Vedrines made the quickest time, and Beaumont came second. Lieutenant Porte, naval aviator, fell 30 feet. His machine was, wrecked, but he was not hurt. ! Aviator Kemp fell 50 feet. The; wing of his machine was crumpled,: but Kemp had a miraculous escape.
