FOODS COMMISSION.

FISH SUPPLIES WITHHELD.

(Received 22, 8.45 a.m.) Sydney, July 22. Before the Floods Commission Air. Stead, naturalist of the Fisheries Department, gave evidence that 12,000,000 lbs. of fish last .year were sent from Sydney to Newcastle markets. Often fishermen prevented, when studying their own interests, the ending of fish to the market for fear of creating a glut. Shoals of salmon and mullet penned up had been allowed to escape when the market was not good enough. With better facilities of transit and distribution the industry was capable of enormous expansion in Sydney.
