TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—Your correspondent “Patriot’ 'made a slight error with reference to the Channel Islanders in speaking of the freedom and selfgovernment in the past tense. He should have spoken in the present. The Islanders still retain the privileges granted them by King John. As a matter of fact- they do not belong to England and never did, but to England's ruler as the successor of the Dukes of Normandy. He is correct in stating that the Islands’ Militia is levied by conscription, it is still in existence and is the oldest standing army in the United Kingdom.—l am, etc., CARETTE OF SARK.
