HOCKEY.
I By the time these notes are in 'print the result of the big match played in Wellington to-day will be known. It is to be hoped that our beys will win. i Wednesday's matches provided ; spectators with hockey ot little interest. The Albion-Drapers match at times was exciting, (‘specially when the latter team were in the lead. However, it takes a good team to beat the Albions. Shattky played his usual sound game in the forwards, and Anderson and Tomoana both were sound in the backs.
The Zingari Athletic match was a good one to watch. The Athletics were without the se ices of their skipper, who was st. ng himself for the rep match. This had considerable effect upon the forwards. as the helves did not hit hard enough. The winners had a fairly strong team in the field. M'ilfin and Eddy both played a hard game in the forwards, while Pirie and McDougall were sound in the backs. Some hard hitting was indulged in by the Athletic full-backs. This team has been fairly successful during the season, only having been beaten twice (by Albion and Zingari). They are a fairlv good team, but m their game on Wednesday they adopted tactics which are not conducive to good hockey. Instead of playing a goal-keeper and two full-backs, they had a roaving full-back whose duty well, it's hard to say where he ought to have been. The. mistake was clearly demonstrated through the goal that was scored. The left wing brought the ball down the field, the right full-back rushed him and was beaten, thus leaving a clear shot at goal. Had there been a keeper in goal there is cry possibility that the ball would have been stopped, as it was an easy shot. It is to be hoped that th<y will stick to the usual, style in future. The forwards played well together. Cassia had hard luck in not X -ing on two occasions. Nepi w\ good, but should rush his opponent more. Their match against Albion next Wednesday should be well worth seeing.
A wedding of interest to hockey players ivas solemnised in Hastings last Wednesday. The contracting parties were Mr. G. A. Maddison, of Hastings, a playing member of the Albion Hockey Chib, and Miss Eileen Wellwood, also of Hastings. Though she has not recently played. Miss Wellwood was one of the best players in the Woodford House team in 1903 and 1909. She was also a member of the H.B. ladies' representatives in 1903 and 1909.
