ATHLETICS AND CYCLING.

MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND UNION. Wellington. July 18. A meeting of the executive committee of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held today.

Mr. M. Ford (secretary of the Wellington centre) waited upon the union to discuss the question of fixing boundaries prior to the formation of the union in December last. The Wellington centre was then affiliated to the League of Wheelmen and controlled practically the whole of the North Island, with the exception oi Auckland. A number of centres have since been formed in affiliation with the union. Mr. Ford explained that the Wellington centre now controlled only Hie Horowhenua and Hutt centres. The district was too small for the successful promotion of sport. He suggested that the executive should add to the Wellington district the country from Palmerston across to Foxton.

A delegate suggested that the districts controlled by the Wellington and Wairarapa centres might be amalgamated.

Mr. Ford said he had no doubt that a live centre could be formed here if the area of the district were sufficiently increased.

It was unanimously decided that the secretary should write to the Vvairarapa centre suggesting that it should amalgamate with Wellington, and that, with a view to forwarding this end, a sub-committee of the Wairarapa. centre should confer with a Wellington centre sub-committee on a day and at a place to be arranged. It was remarked that in the event of amalgamation being accomplished some difficulty might be experienced in selecting the headquarters of the new centre.

Mr. Ford suggested that alternate centre meetings might be held at Masterton and Wellington. Mr. Hansen stated that in the Taranaki centre meetings were held in various parts of the district as convenience dictated.

An application from the Dunlop Company for a donation towards the prize fund of the road race was refused.
