NOTIC ES OF MOTION. Tin 1 following motions will come before the monthly meeting of tiie Napier Harbour Board next Tuesday in aeconlaiive with notice given :■ — By Mr. La;m:-(l) That this board take steps to ascertain tie levels of all that land at pre-i-enl in profitable occupation between the roads from Awatoto anti Meanee. Napier and Greenmeadows. with a view to deciding whether a system of drainage similar to the Government Piake Swamp reclamation scheme can Im carried out by the board which might not only free Napier ana Napier South of surface water, but bring into profitable occupation the whole of the area within the boundaries described.” (2) “That this board consider the advisability of reclaiming all that part of the Ahuriri lagoon west of the Napier-Greenmeadows road, which is not required for harbour. recreation or ornamental purposes, by a system of dredging suggested By Mr. George Nelson whereby the shallows would become land and the depths be deepened.” (:;> “That this hoard, should the results of the survey suggested in No. 1 resolution be satisfactorv to a drainage scheme retpu st the Central Livers Board to take steps to divert the Tutue kuri river from its present course, and incidentally reclaim till that land at present not in profitable occupation between the. Awatbto Meant e road and the Farndon rail way station.” (1) “That this board
take into consideration the advisability of acquiring the whole of the syndicate’s interests, seeing that all suggestions .whether for the prosperity of the district or not, put forward by the gentlemen known as the ‘AVhare-o-Maraenui Syndicate” are ascribed to interested motives and exposed to the envy, hatred, maii.ee and all uneiiaritablem'ss of an insignificant minority of the public, which hostile criticism is. however, sufficient to retard the progress of Hauke's Bav. ”

requirements it is desirable, subject to the favourable opinion of the consulting engineer, that the board authorise the preparation of an Empowering Bill for presentation to Parliament dinimr the coming session, authorising the board to borrow such a sum as will provide for the purchase of same and reclamation purposes.” By Mr. J.
