INVESTITURE OF H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES
A BRILLIANT ASSEMBLAGE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT J. London, July 1-t. The Prince of Wales. in a middy's uniform, arrived at Carnarvon t astir, escorted by Lord Denbigh s v eomanry. The Prince received a tremendous ovation. A salute of 21 guns was fired in the great Castle .Square. The Right Hon. Lloyd George, as Constable of the Castle, received the Prince. A procession of druids, lords, heralds, thirty-nine \\ elsh mayors, and twenty-four A\ elsh Commoners accompanied him to the robing room in the Chamberlain s Tower, where the Prince awaited their Majesties' arrival. An hour later Princess Mary of Connaught and the great officers accompanied their Majesties, who were escorted by LifcGuards. Arrived at the Water (.ate, Mr. Lloyd- George delivered the keys. There was a brilliant assemblage, including Mr. Asquith. Mr. Birrell. Mr. Balfour. Mr. Burns, and Mr. Harcourt. Assembled on the dais in the court yard were %'.•■<> guests on tiers of seats, filling every available space. The Garters summoned the Prince of Wales who was dressed in a short st:reoat. knee breeches and a robe. The King personally girded on the sword, placed the coronet on his head, the ring on his finger, and the gold stick in his hand. The people greeted each act with '■heers. The Prince knelt, doing homage for the principality, and repeating the Abbey oath. The King handed him the letters patent and kissed his cheek. A religious service followed.
Sir Joshua Rhys Mahon. ArchDruid. presented rn address from tie people of Wales, greeting the Prince as their leader. THE PRINCE S SPEECH. The Prince of Wales replied: “I am very young. ’ nt I have the example of my dear father and mother. (Hearty cheering). I hope to do my duty to the King, the i principality, and the Welsh.” The phrases of the speech hugely ; delighted the populace. The King presented the Prince at Queen Eleanor’s Gate, thousands surrounding the castle. Their Majesties later returned to Holyhead. AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT (Received 15. 9.10 a.m.) London. July 11. During the investiture illuminations at Llandudno, some fireworks on a boat exploded, killing two persons.
