The children of the District High School are assiduously practising each evening after school, tripping right merrily to music supplied by Mr. Scott (of King’s Theatre Orchestra). The usual Grand March is receiving the same share of attention as in former years, and wc expect to see a large gathering in the Drill Hall ,on Friday evening next to view this pretty sight. Pleasing evidence of the good feeling existing between employer and employee was exemplified at the business premises of Air. Al. Johnson this morning, when bis employees assembled for the purpose of making him a presentation on the eve of his departure for a tour of the South Sea Islands, Mr. J. Bamforth, manager, handed Air. Johnson a handsome travelling bag and in doing so, referred to Mr. Johnson’s many sterling qualities as en employer, and whilst expressing the wish that he might return fully restored to health, assured him that his absence from business need occasion him no anxiety, inasmuch as every member of the staff would endeavour ro shoulder the additional responsibility. Air. Johnson, to whom the presentation, came as a genuine surprise, expressed his gratitude to the staff for their thoughtfulness and good wishes, more particularly their expressions of loyalty as expressed by Air. Bamforth. The incident terminated with three cheers for Air. and Mrs. Johnson.
