AUCKLAND HOSPITAL.
APPOINTMENT OF LADY SUPERINTENDENT. Auckland, July 5. At a meeting of the Hospital, Board a letter was received from' Dr. Valintine, in regard to the, selection by the Board of Miss! Griffiths, of Dunedin, as lady superintendent, stating that the Department- did not consider the best selection had been made among the candidates, and the Minister : could not approve. Mr. Neherey said Miss Griffiths was appointed by a majority of) eight to two, after carefully con-) sidering the testimonials, amongst) six candidates, yet immediately] after the selection was announced I Miss McLean came to Auckland to; interview members of the Board,; ; urging them to appoint another) ) candidate with longer experience,] as in charge of nurses. It was fur-; I ther stated by Miss McLean that' I she was acting under instructions ' front Dr. Valintine. j The Chairman stated that the,' j Minister had power of veto over. ] the appointment for 21 days only, j The Board resolved that Miss Griffiths should be appointed to a position at the expiration of the.' 21 days (Friday next) from date of: j her nomination by the Board. ■
