EXCURSION STEAMER WRECKED.

RESCUE WORK AITS AIA NAG ED. Ottawa, July I. The Spokane, which struck a rock in Plumper's Bay. carried 150 excursionists, and was run ashore in a sinking condition. Two women, panic stricken, leaped overboard and were drowned. A wireless message called up the steamer Admiral Sampson, which rescued the passengers and crew. The Spokane will probably be a total wreck. One of the. victime was Airs. AVilliams. wife of a "Washington millionaire who made his fortune in African diamond mining. (Received 3. 5.5 a.m.) Ottawa. July 2. The Spokane’s passengers assert, that the crew grossly mismanaged the rescue of those aboard. When the vessel struck, the male passengers airled the women to escape in the boats. One woman gained the Leach after leaping overboard ; another was drowned aboard the vessel seeking to escape.
