On tne motion of Mr. Mallard, it was decided at yesterday’s meeting of the Hastings Fire Board to ask Mr. J. A. Miller, late chairman of the board, to lay the foundation stone of the new fire station at a date to be fixed. Speaking to his motion, Mr. Mallard said he thought it was only due to Mr. Miller, who had borne the burden of the day in raising the £3OOO loan. Mr. Styles, the newly-elect-ed chairman, concurred, and added that it would ill become him to as’ert .iny claims he might have in preference to the services rendered by the late chairman.
