HAWKE’S BAY SHEEPOWNERS UNION.
The annual general meeting of the Hawke's Bay Sheepowners’ Union was held yesterday, in the A. and P. Association’s rooms. Napier. The president of the union. Mr. A. 11. Russell, occupied the chair.
The report and balance-sheet. ■ which had already been circulated amongst the members, was taken' as read, and in speaking to the motion that it be adopted, the chairman congratulated the im-m Hers on tlrn healthy condition of the union. He remarked that the combination of this with other similar unions covering practically the whole Dominion into a Sheepowners' Federation had enabled sheepowners to secure Dominion awards for shearers and shed ’ hands, which it is hoped will prove; satisfactory to both sides and enable the work to be carried out without friction. The thanks of the union were due to Mr. W. E. Griffin and the present secretary. Mr. S. E. Wright, for their services during the year. He considered the incoming committee would be wise to fix the subscription at. a somewhat higher rate for next year, as in all probability the federation will require to make a levy on the unions, and it will be as well to anticipate it. Mr. W. G. Stead, iu seconding the motion, 'I might, the Sheepowners' Federal ion had proved of meat benefit to sheepowners as a. whole, i-.iasnmch as it had enabled them to secure uniform awards throughout the Dominion. |
