BARQUE ALEXA. CLAIM FOR SALVAGE ALLOWED. Wanganui, June 27. Mr. Justice Sim to-day delivered judgment in a claim by the Wanganui Freezing Company against A. Hatrick and James White, owners of the barquentinc Alexa. The plaintiffs are owners of the lighter Thistle, and claim-i ed £250 for ’ services rendered in j the salvage of the barquentinc. The Alexa ran aground on the South Spit, on December 12th, l!)10. The Thistle and the Harbour Board’s tug Togo assisted in getting the vessel off, and in keeping her from bumping into the breakwater. The defendants contended that it was the Alexa’s own gear which pulled the vessel off, but His Honor considered that the services rendered were of*some value in salving operations. In consideration of the Value of the vessel, he thought £250 was a reasonable sum for the services of the Thistle, and Togo. Treating £75 of this as hav-l ing been earned by the Togo, that J left £175 as the sum to be paid for' the services of the Thistle. Costs; were allowed against the defendants. |
