CONCILIATION COUNCIL’S RECOMMEN DATIONS.

Wellington, June 7. The recommendations of the Conciliation Council in the stationary traction and locomotive enginedrivers’ dispute, in which 400 employers were cited in Wellington, Palmerston North, Masterton, Wanganui, and Hawke’s Bay, provide for a week of 48 hours, exclusive of time occupied in getting up steam.

River engineers’ hours shall note i exceed 63 per week. When, work requires a driver to | possess a first-class certificate, the i # rate of pay shall be 10/- per day, and second-class certificates 9/- per day.

The minimum wage of firemen shall be 8/- per day. River engineers shall be paid not less than 70/-. per week; : CC?**- f

Owners of traction engines may contract with their men for payment at tonnage or piecework rate. The preference? datijse isr‘’fri'serted, but it does not apply to employers, whose business es beyond a * radius of 10 miles from Wellington, Masterton, Napier, Hastings, Palmerston, Foxton, Wanganui, Taihape, and Ohakune Post Offices.

Employers of traction enginedrivers are exempt from the clause.
