Lord Darnby, ai» the Rochester Diocesan conference, proposed the adoption of a Catholic compromise l between Sabbat ian and secular views, and urged that the Church should countenance recreation ■ games after morning sen-ice. The Dean of Rochester urged that Sunday should be spent in preparing for eternity whereof it was really a foretaste. A resolution recommending the question of the spread of Sunday recreation to the anxious consideration of the Church, was adopted.
