HAVELOCK SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Havelock North School Committee was held on Monday evening. Present : Messrs. H. A. Mossman (in the chair), J. Phillips. L. Cooper. J. H. Joll, J. Davis, and L. Woon. Mr. Runeiman resigned his seat on the committee, and Mr. Jarvis was elected to fill the vacancy. Air. Runciman was appointed secretary and treasurer. Members expressed appreciation of Air. Runciman’s services in the past, and pleasure that he would still be associated with them. The Chairman reported that the school had been closed owing to a slight outbreak of scarlatina, but had re-opened with a clean sheet, though the attendance had slightly decreased. The necessity of increased scno il accommodation and an assistant master was discussed. Regarding the former question, it was unanimously agreed that as the matter had been before the authorities for a long time, and nothing had been heard of it since December last, that all information be supplied to Air. Alfred Dillon, M.P., with a request that he should look into the position.
Several small accounts were passed for payment, and Alessrs. Alossman and Phillips were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The Hawke’s Bay Education Board have visited the school, and recommended the additions, and the Inspector has reported that “good work is impossible in the lower standards owing to the serious overcrowding.” Still nothing has been done to improve matters by the Wellington authorities.
