OTAGO MOTOR CYCLE TRIALS

THE FINAL TEST. After a series of competitions extending over about six months, the Otago Motor Cycle Club has found a definite winner for the Hislop Cup. The last test was held on Saturday aftetrnoon, April 8, between A. E. Ansell, F. E. Bell, and A. McDougall, the three Triumph riders who successfully came through the trial on Anniversary Day, each rider carrying the same weight and being given 260 z of petrol before 'starting. Special interest was taken in the event by motor cyclists and the public alike, and about 25 riders accompanied the competitors. A start was made f; om the Market Reserve, in Princes street, at 2 p.m., by F. E. Bell, who continued along the Main South road and finished his petrol at 23’miles,, averaging 145 miles to tne gallon. X. E. Ansell went one bettm, and continued running until past V. aihola, when he stopped fit 26T miles, and averaged 163 miles to the gallon. A. E. McDougall, who started second, turned out to be the winner, his distance being miles, the consumption working out at the exceptional rate of 170 miles to the gallon. As no pedalling or other assistance was allowed on the hills, of which there are plenty on the course followed, the performance stands out as a remarkable one.
