ADVANCE PICTON.

THE FIRST PILE OF A FINE WHARF. Picton, May 17. The ceremony of driving the first pile of the new Picton wharf was performed to-day by the Hon. J. A. Millar. The structure, which is the first ferro concrete wharf constructed by the Government, is, when finished, to be 616 feet long by 68 broad, and will give a depth of from 25 to 30 feet at low water. The cost will be £56,000 and the work is expected to be finished in two years.
